Kelly Green Quartet Lights Up Zinc Bar

A Night of Jazz, Flute Magic, and Joyful Vocal
Kelly Green Quartet Featuring Elijah J. Thomas at Zinc Bar – Tuesday, February 25, 2025
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Kelly Green Quartet delivered an unforgettable performance at the iconic Zinc Bar in New York City. Led by the exceptionally talented pianist and vocalist Kelly Green. The band, known for its tight-knit and beautifully cohesive sound, featured Evan Hyde on drums, Luca Soul Rosenfeld on bass and flautist Elijah J. Thomas. This is the band Kelly performs with regularly and they also recorded her latest album Seems together, which you can hear from the first note. We had the opportunity to hear Kelly Green perform in December with a different rhythm section, but this time, the chemistry was even more electrifying, and the music reached new heights.
Elijah J. Thomas: Redefining the Flute in Jazz
A standout moment of the evening was the performance of Elijah J. Thomas, who masterfully demonstrated that the flute and also piccolo can indeed be a competitive solo instrument in jazz music. His playing was nothing short of virtuosic, adding a fresh and vibrant layer to the quartet’s sound. Thomas’s ability to weave intricate melodies and improvisations into the ensemble’s fabric was nothing short of breath taking. We loved how he mastered the piccolo.
Highlights: From “Moonlight Saving Time” to New Music
One of the highlights of the night was Kelly Green’s stunning rendition of “Moonlight Saving Time” from her album Seems. Her performance was both tender and powerful, capturing the essence of the song’s introspective beauty. The audience was also treated to a sneak peek of some of her new compositions, set to be released in August 2025. These new works showcased her evolving artistry and left us eagerly anticipating what’s to come. Keep Kelly Green on your radar—her upcoming release is sure to be something special.
Zinc Bar: Where Music Comes Alive
The atmosphere at Zinc Bar, as always, was exceptional. The venue’s intimate yet spacious setting allowed the audience to feel completely at ease, while the impeccable acoustics ensured a first-class concert experience. It’s a place where music truly comes alive, and the Kelly Green Quartet took full advantage of this, delivering a performance that was both deeply personal and universally resonant.
